The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.

Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. began in Savannah, Georgia, in 1912 with a troop of only 18 girls. Today, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. is the world's largest organization for girls, with over 2.5 million enrolled. Five program age levels are offered for girls 5 through 17. More than 40 million American women have been members of the Girl Scouts since its founding. Girl Scouting today provides a safe, supportive way for girls to participate in projects involving computers and technology, careers, the environment, personal finance, and sports.

The Girl Scouts of Laurens County is in the Old 96 Council, Greenville, S.C.

The Girl Scouts of Newberry County is in the Congaree Council.

The Saluda River District of the Boy Scouts of America of the Blue Ridge Council is made up of youth in both Laurens and Newberry Counties.
